WOW!
Sesame Street is 40.
A large part of my formative years and my pop culture love comes from "The Street" and I'm not alone.
What are your thoughts on this major TV milestone?

My favorite is the one from
My favorite is the one from the closing credits of that special. It closes with Phil Donahue singing the song and scatting.
:D
Cool: That you already knew
Cool: That you already knew about "Put Down the Duckie"
Cooler: That :"Put Down the Duckie" is one of your favorite things.
Coolest: That you have a favorite *version* of "Put Down the Duckie"!

The Muppets and Their Seasons
Orenthal posted this cool guide to 101 of Sesame Street's Muppets and when they premiered on the show. I didn't know Telly is short for Television Monster. Telly was once obsessed with television. Now I know why I like him so much. Also, Elmo, although not as popular in the beginning as he is now, was introduced fairly early on in the series, the eleventh season to be precise. The Geek Patrol recently re-watched A Muppet Family Christmas and Elmo is brought in along with most of the other Sesame Street crew for the final medley of Christmas tunes. They don't focus on him though, but he's there.

"What? Too much?"
One of the greats
For my money, this is one of the best songs from the Street. The really cool stuff starts about 90 seconds in:
(Sorry, I can't figure out how to imbed the video.)
That song is one of Hawk's favorite things
Although that's not his favorite version. I'm sure that he's singing that song right now and trying to find the other version on YouTube ...

There He Is!
I think what I remembered more were the little musical numbers that were done to cartoons in between the muppet segments. I never really liked the muppets. And I, of course, remember getting older and having other programming on PBS to replace Street when I got too old for it. There was Electric Comany and 3-2-1 Contact.
Wow!
I was wondering why Google had Big Bird's legs as the "L"s in their logo today. BTW, checked it out and Cookie Monster believed his name was Sid before he ate his first cookie. It makes you wonder if he was killing people and telling them, "When you get to hell, tell them Sid sent you. NOM! NOM! NOM! NOM!" And then he discovered cookies and calmed down.

Argh!
Thank you, John, for ruining my childhood.
Again.
