Just read the nominees for
Just read the nominees for The Roundtable Awards and I desperately want to listen to the podcast but first I wanted to get down some of my thoughts about some of the nominees. Sit back and relax because this is going to take awhile:
Best Web Comic: Much as I love SHELDON I have to ask why there is no love for SINFEST?
Best TV Episode: Any epsiode of FRINGE gets my vote (not that I have one but you know what I mean) as it's one of my new favorite shows, earning a Season Pass on my DVR.
Best Movie: Not that I have anything against THE DARK KNIGHT which I loved to death and significantly raised the bar for what a superhero movie can be but I give the nod to IRON MAN. Maybe because I didn't expect it to be as mollyfoggin' good as it was. And it's a movie you can watch over and over again and still feel that sense of wonder and fun that superheroes are supposed to give you.
Best Podcast: Thanks to you guys for even nominating BETTER IN THE DARK. It's much appreciated.
Best Director of A TV Show Or Movie: Jon Favreau for IRON MAN.
Best Performer In A TV Show Or Movie: In a movie I gotta give it to Aaron Eckhart. I think it's criminal that with the outpouring of sympathy for Heath Ledger's untimely death Aaron Eckhart's equally amazing performance as Harvey Dent/Two-Face hasn't got the notice it should have. Aaron Eckhart easily deserved a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination as much as Ledger. THE DARK KNIGHT is really the story of Harvey Dent and how Batman and The Joker wage war over his soul. It's an amazing performance.
In a TV show I give it to Catherine Dent who really did some brilliant work playing Donna Noble. First of all, she's zaftig to the max and she's the first Companion of the new DOCTOR WHO series who acts like a woman and not like a silly ass schoolgirl mooning over The Doctor.
Best Animation: WALL-E. Can there be any doubt otherwise?
Best Character: River Song. As with Sarah Jane Smith and Donna Noble, The Doctor works best when he has female Companions who behave and comport themselves like women and not like silly ass schoolgirls who think The Doctor is the long-lost fourth Jonas Brother. River Song fits in that catergory.
Best Thing of 2008: DR. HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG. The end of the Bush era. The Superhero Movie as serious cinema.
Thank You
I am honored by my nominations. Thank you to all Rifterians who nominated me.
And I will add that personally, the release of I Remember the Future was at least the Best Thing of 2008 that happened to me. :-)

One Minor Correction
The story title "Empty Places" should be "Empty Spaces."

"What? Too much?"
An Uneven Bunch
of nominees. It looks like part serious, part popularity contest. I'll take John's advice though and wait and see. I know how shooting one's mouth off can get you cut off around here.
