So I'm listening to a recent episode of Better in the Dark and they're doing their retrospective on the various incarnations of the Justice League on TV when they discuss the Black Vulcan character on The Super Friends. They came up with Black Vulcan as they couldn't use Black Lightning created by Tony Isabella. But then they talk about DC's first attempt that never made it to print, The Black Bomber. This was a racist white man who turned into a black superhero in times of stress. When he would revert to his white persona, he hated himself for the black lives he saved. They actually wrote two stories and then Isabella convinced them to let him do Black Lightning.
